History of Gillian McAven
I established myself as Web Designer 20 years ago, and decided recently to learn to paint modern/contemporary art.
I joined the 4 Seasons Art Class in Takapuna, in February 2021.
I learned how to use a good mix of art mediums and mixed media, and from that was able to find my natural style which is leaning towards the “Naive” Impressionism style.
We studied sketching, oil pastels, watercolor paint, and watercolor pencils, and worked with acrylic oils.
We learnt modern, contemporary, cubism, pallet knife, abstract, and still life.
Some of the paintings I display on this website, are from my 4 Seasons class, and are copied/modelled from existing masters so we could learn styles. Therefore this site is a combination of a portfolio and a webshop catalogue, where my original works are available for sale and separately my other class work is just for display. The class works are A3 size on watercolor paper 300gsm, or primed canvas ready to use 30×40.5 cm.
I continue to get inspiration from famous artworks, and use Youtube tutorials when needing to learn a new style or technique.
I was recently invited to exhibit my art at the Hugh Green Retirement Village.
I have a wall permanently set aside for my work, and display these paintings as 20 x 24″ canvases.
See my section called Art Gallery Exhibition. Prices are subject to enquiry by email.
I give credit to all the artists that have inspired me in my work.
Some artworks I have copied, partially copied, or they are full reproductions, with my own interpretations added.

**Please email if I have not given full credit and I will add it to this site.
***My original works are for sale by negotiation, but the reproductions are not as they are copyrighted by the original artists. Some paintings I have already given away to friends and family so are no longer available.

Tree of Lost Time, – Gifted to Marianne Williamson
Interpreted from Salvador Dali’s melting clocks famous painting. I gave this painting as a gift to Marianne Williamson because I felt prompted by Spirit, when went to her talk at Sky Theater, August 2022. I have been a reader of Marianne’s books for the last 35 or so years. She has written 14 spiritual books and is a public figure in America.
