Lament at the Tree of Lost Time, Acrylic Painting 12 x 16
I was inspired to bring this painting together by combining Dali’s surreal abstract with a few more recent artworks. In particular, to me, I found a new (old) way to express lost time (during Covid), by displaying Dali’s famous melting clocks in a wasteland, only now, we have Lost Time from 2020, to 2022. I felt prompted to paint this because there has been much lamenting about how Covid has taken 2 and a half years so far, out of our lives, disrupted us, locked us down, and prevented us from living the way we were before the pandemic. Hence I now have a combination of clocks from Dali to Disney’s smashed clock pieces floating away (Alice in Wonderland), plus a clock that suggests time can go backward, (or wishing it would). The lady of the lake was sourced from Pinterest but I have been unable to locate the author of that face so I can’t give credit to her. On one level, the lady is a ghost combining all races – Every Woman, and she may be interpreted as lamenting at the tree of lost time. On the other hand, you could interpret it as a Divine Spirit observing the physical world, (where Time is an illusion, so that may give some solace.
I took great pleasure to present this painting to Marianne Williamson as a gift because I felt prompted by Spirit, as I went to her talk at Sky Theater this week August 2. I have been an admirer and reader of Marianne’s books for the last 35 or so years. She has written 14 spiritual books and is a public figure in America. Spirit started nudging me about 5 days prior to the event, to bring this painting to Marianne.
I was thrilled to see a photo of me presenting the painting, on Marianne’s Facebook page. Now I have a memento to cherish and remember.
